On Wednesday, July 20th, former U.S Sec. of State Colin Powell, visited the U.S. Pavilion. In September of 2004, General Powell participated in the signing ceremony which formalized the U.S.’s participation in the World Expo in Aichi, Japan. On Saturday, May 7th the U.S. Pavilion celebrated “Derby Day” in honor of the long-standing horse race at Churchill Downs. The first 250 families that visited the U.S. Pavilion on that day received Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher’s Kentucky Derby Poster.
EXPO visitors enjoy many interesting live performances on the Global Common 2 Stage in front of the U.S. Pavilion.
On Saturday July 9th the Wakabayashi family from Yamanashi Prefecture found themselves the lucky winners as the U.S. Pavilion celebrated its 1,000,000th visitor. The Wakabayashis have been declared Official VIPs and Special Friends of the U.S. Pavilion and have been invited to return next month for a VIP lunch for 10 in the Franklin Room, including 10 free tickets to the Expo.
The Duke’s Men of Yale, an a cappella singing group from New Haven, Connecticut performed May 14th on the Global Common 2 stage.

The Honorable Margaret Spellings, U.S. Secretary of Education, addresses the crowd at the Expo Dome. “Education is a basic human right for all the world’s peoples. 6,000 Expo visitors attended the two cultural shows at the Expo Dome. Featuring the USC Band and Cheerleaders, Daniel Rodriguez, America’s Beloved Tenor, the VOENA Children’s Choir from California, and “Sesame Street Live,” the performances showcased the wide spectrum of America’s music.
On the Expo Dome Stage, visitors were treated to a performance of the University of Southern California’s famed Marching Band and Cheerleaders.

The U.S. Pavilion, through a partnership with the Travel industry Association of America, has arranged a free “See America Honeymoon” for the couple. “We’re going to Disney World!” said an elated Ms. Kojo.
